Immerse yourself in the extraordinary world of railway !
History
In the 19th century, the railway revolution has deeply transformed our societies. The Alpine territories were no longer isolated. This tremendous development gives birth to a society of its own, the railway workers, united by a way of life and union fights. At its peak, Veynes, the strategic crossroads of the rail network in the Alps, is counting up to 700 railway workers.
The museum
Built in an 18th century mansion, the museum tells Veynes' railway history. Through seven rooms, it shows the technical, industrial and social aspects of the railway.
On display :
> model railways for all ages
> a collection of rare and unusual objects
> a reproduction of a steam locomotive cab (140C)
> videos of personal testimonies (in French)
The visit can be extended with the ‘follow the rail' route through twenty places, symbolic of Veynes' railway past.
